Why we publish Capital News Africa

By Christian Hiller von Gaertringen @@Chr_Hiller · On 27 March 2025

Africa Partners is driven by one conviction: Information about financing, debt, and financial markets in Africa is crucial because there is a significant lack of accessible and reliable information on these topics. That’s the reason we decided to publish Capital News Africa, a weekly newsletter dedicated to African finance.

We have thrown ourselves into this adventure out of passion and we do not yet know exactly where this journey will take us. But we do know one thing: We’re just getting started with Capital News Africa. Every week, your reactions tell us how important our work is. Thank you for this commitment.

A fragmented coverage of capital markets

Despite Africa’s dynamic economic landscape and its growing importance in global finance, coverage of its financial systems, debt structures, and capital markets remains fragmented and often overlooked by mainstream media.

One thing has struck us: Development aid institutions are working on almost every issue in Africa. Yet neither multilateral development financiers like the World Bank and the IMF nor the many national ones from Europe like FMO, KFW, Proparco, AFD, and DEG are interested in the development of African financial markets. Is this a coincidence?

Only credit, no capital

They grant billions in loans. However, when it comes to equity, they are stingy. But only equity providers become true partners, not lenders.

We are convinced that Africa does not need more loans that increase its dependence on foreign countries. The continent needs partners willing to provide equity.

Contributing to transparency

Transparency is a key factor in fostering trust among investors, policymakers, and businesses. By providing regular, well-researched insights, Capital News Africa can help bridge the information gap. Our aim is to offer clarity on financial trends, risks, and opportunities. Enhanced transparency not only supports better decision-making but also contributes to more sustainable financial development across the continent.

Such a publication would serve as a vital resource for financial professionals, development institutions, and market participants seeking to navigate Africa’s complex financial ecosystem with confidence.

This is why we publish Capital News Africa. For us, this briefing is not just a blog or another media product. For us, Capital News Africa is a mission.
